Steel Swords in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are one of two main Weapon types used by Geralt to deal damage to Enemies in combat. Steel Swords are effective against humans, some humanoid opponents as well as non-magical beasts such as bears and wolves. Against Monsters and magical beings, however, they are largely ineffective. Steel Swords have varying stats and properties that influence their effectiveness in combat, and they can be upgraded with Runestones to gain bonus effects provided they have upgrade slots available. They can also be coated in certain Witcher Oils to gain a temporary buff that improves their damage against specific enemy types. Steel Swords can be obtained through various means including random drops from defeated opponents, looted from treasure chests, awarded for completing Quests and objectives or crafted by a Blacksmith with the appropriate diagram and materials.

The instant kill swords were my preferred choice in Witcher 2, so I was thrilled to find the Tor Lara sword. The required level is 17. I'm guessing I found mine far too early to see 410 damage because mine is 150-184 Damage 101 Vitality 18% Aard Sign intensity 17% chance to cause burning and the 3% chance for instant kill.
