The Conjunction of The Spheres is a cataclysmic event that took place approximately 1.500 years ago in the world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
During the occurance, The Witcher's Universe collided with another, unknown Universe. From that reality poured in monsters, the forces of Chaos and amongst other forms of Life and Power, Humans.
The Humans eventually mastered some extent of control over the forces of Chaos and so the first Sorcerers came to be. Striving to find their place in this new world, Humans declared war on the Elder Races, who did not anticipate such arrogance. Due to passivity or inability to contain the barbarism, the Elven, Dwarven and Halfling populations where pushed back and eventually conquered. It was in this way that Humans came to rule the world.
There is speculation implying that The Wild Hunt is actually a brigade of Spectral Riders that stem from another Universe as well. They come to the protagonist's world in order to take with them individuals they deem interesting and spirit them away. Their appearance matches that of Elves, but these ones seem prideful and majestic, unlike the downtrodden ones found in the Northern Realms.
Perhaps their true nature is about to be revealed...
