Aerondight is a Silver Sword in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Silver Swords form one half of Geralt's primary Weapons which he uses to deal damage to Enemies in combat. Silver Swords are highly effective against Monsters and most supernatural beings, and are often the only way to deal consistent damage to them but they are less effective against regular humans and non-magical opponents. They can be enhanced with most Oils to specialize against certain enemy types, dealing increased damage and some can be socketed with Runestones or Runewords for more bonus effects. This Weapon is available with the Blood and Wine DLC.
- Note that Damage and Level are not listed due to Damage's dependence on the item's Level, and the randomness of the item's Level when acquired.
Aerondight Weapon Attributes in The Witcher 3
Aerondight has the following properties:
Each blow generates charges which increase sword damage by 10%. Charges are lost over time or when receiving damage. A fully-charged sword always deals critical hit damage.
Killing a foe with a fully loaded sword will expend its charge to permanently increase the weapon's damage. Damage is increased by: 0 (to a maximum of 10 - increasing along with your character level).
Aerondight is one of the most unique weapons in the game and has a very high damage potential due to its unique property of increasing its damage output when defeating opponents while the sword is fully charged.
The sword gains charges with every successful hit, temporarily increasing its damage output by 10% per charge. Once 10 charges are obtained, the blade glows a bright yellow. While in this state, your next killing blow against any opponent will permanently increase the sword's damage by 2 points and will consume all charges, requiring you to charge the sword up once again for the next damage gain.
The amount of permanent damage increase is capped to a certain limit. However, this cap is raised as Geralt levels up. When you have hit the cap for your current level, the 100% damage bonus from obtaining 10 charges is not consumed upon killing an opponent, allowing you to retain the temporary bonus as long as you do not get hit or let the charges dissipate over time.
Aerondight can easily be leveled up by finding a low-level monster nest and repeatedly killing enemies. The Quen sign will help tremendously when charging the sword by preventing you from losing charges when attacks hit the shield.
How to obtain Aerondight in The Witcher 3
Aerondight can be obtained as follows:
Aerondight is obtained from the Lady of the Lake at Lac Celavy in western Toussaint, northwest of Beauclair after completing the quest There Can Be Only One. This quest requires you to first prove that you have upheld the Five Chivalric Values of Toussaint by completing quests that pertain to each value. Upon arriving at the lake, you will come across a set of five Stones representing each Virtue, as well as a Hermit who is associated with the quest. The following quests and actions are some ways you can prove yourself with respect to each virtue:
Valor
- Contract: Bovine Blues - Defeat all the Slyzards including the matriarch.
- Equine Phantoms - Do not show mercy to the spirit.
- Raging Wolf - Defeat the Maestro in a fistfight. Requires progression in Fists of Fury: Toussaint.
- The Night of Long Fangs - Defeat the Katakan attacking Delwyn.
Honor
- Goodness, Gracious, Great Balls of Granite! - Return the statue's "stones" to Rolande. Alternatively, letting Hughes keep them counts towards proof of the Virtue of Compassion.
- The Warble of a Smitten Knight - Agree to the duel and win. Additionally, agreeing to keep Vivienne's secret from Guillaume will also count as proof of Honor.
- Till Death Do You Part - Choose to tell Charles the truth.
Compassion
- Goodness, Gracious, Great Balls of Granite! - Let Hughes keep the statue's "stones". Alternatively, returning the stones to Rolande will count towards proof of the Virtue of Honor.
- The Beast of Toussaint - Spare the life of the Shaelmaar.
- Capture the Castle - Help the wounded Roderick after the battle with him and his cohorts.
- Mutual of Beaclair's Wild Kingdom - Spare the life of the Basilisk.
- Equine Phantoms - Tell Roach to forgive the spirit. Alternatively, choosing not to forgive it counts towards proof of the Virtue of Valor.
Generosity
- Where Children Toil, Toys Waste Away - Pay the shoeshine for information without haggling or using Axii to influence him.
- Beyond Hill and Dale - Purchase Syanna's ribbon from the Little Flint Girl. Alternatively, you can win it by beating her at Gwent.
- Mutual of Beauclair's Wild Kingdom - Let the Basilisk live (Compassion) and refuse additional crowns from its caretaker.
Wisdom
- The Beast of Toussaint - Solve the riddle at the end of the quest. The answer is "Greenhouse".
- Father Knows Worst - Refuse to fight Hugo's brothers at the end of the quest and convince him to speak with them instead.
- La Cafe au Fou - Lift the curse of the Spotted Wight.
These are only some examples of how to uphold these virtues and there are many different options you can take within many other quests to fulfill the requirements. Once complete, speak to the Hermit at the lake who will initiate a trial by combat. Defeat him and he will disappear into the lake, reappearing as the Lady of the Lake who will hand you the Aerondight silver sword.
