Echoes of the Past is a Main Quest in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. Main Quests are the main storyline of the game that can have a major effect towards the endings. Some of these quests may have dialogue choices that will alter the ending of the game.
It starts after Geralt and Yennefer complete the previous task and take the Mask of Uroboros out of Ermion's lab.
A magic cataclysm had devastated a large part of the isle of Ard Skellig, and Yennefer suspected Ciri had had something to do with it. The raven-haired sorceress thus set out with Geralt to the isle's mysteriously deformed woods to look for signs of their one-time ward's presence.

Walkthrough for The Witcher 3 Echoes of the Past
Sail to Redgill and make your way to the Druids' Camp. When you arrive you see Yennefer arguing with Ermion. You can join the convo or wait for them to finish. Answer Ermion in any way and head to where Yennefer is. Help her defeat the foglets and speak with her. Quickly put the mask on and take it off using the quick slot menu.
Follow Yennefer to where the ground is ripped apart. Put the mask on to see 2 figures step from a portal. Remove the mask when Yennefer decides to move to the next area. Take out a foglet and put the mask on again. Remove it and follow Yennefer again. You see that Ciri traveled to Velen. Defeat the foglet and follow Yennefer eat. Put the mask on when told and witness the scene.
Speak to Ermion and hand him the mask. You're searching for a corpse now, heading south. Yennefer lifts a tree and you discover a Wild Hunt Rider body. Ermion fills you in on his concerns and Yennefer suggests you travel to Lofoten where the Wild Hunt was seen. Agree and the main quest, Missing Persons begins.
