The Beast's and Geralt's clash had been violent albeit brief. Now With it done, Geralt could have a chat with his long lost friend Regis. A higher vampire, Regis revealed that the creature terrorizing Beauclair was none other than his dear friend Dettlaff. Geralt now understood he was pursuing a truly dangerous foe – a higher vampire, one of Regis' ilk. Then the witcher and the vampire heard a clamor. A posse was drawing near. So Geralt and Regis cut their conversation short. Preferring not to draw any attention, the vampire disappeared, but not before inviting the witcher to pay him a visit at temporary quarters he'd established at the local cemetery (you had better believe it!), Mère-Lachaiselongue.

Walkthrough for The Witcher 3 La Cage au Fou

When the quest begins your first objective will be to Meet Regis at Mère-Lachaiselongue Cemetery. Track the quest to lead you to the crypt. Once you reach the doors, you will need to find another way in. This objective will give you a search area. Use your witcher senses to highlight points of interest. You may encounter some ghouls here.

A large tomb towards the south side of the search area will have a large hole in it to jump through. That will be your way into the crypt. You will need to fight off some Kikimore worker enemies when you get through the underground caves. Loot the area and explore, then when you are done, continue towards the objective marker. Approaching the objective location will immediately trigger the next cutscene. Continue the dialogue.

When you are released, you will have the optional objective to read the bestiary about the spotted wights. You can then also look for the wight's lair. Once you arrive, activate your Witcher Senses to search the area. Investigate the writings on the wall and the dining table.

Take either direction. Use Aard on the rock wall that blocks your direction if you took the right path. If you took the path on the left, you should be able to also come across Casus Foederis's sword and a note. Once you reach the marker location, the cutscene will begin. Complete the dialogue. Afterward you will continue to look for the wight's lair. Use Roach to travel to your next location on the map. The next scene will begin when you reach the next location, and Geralt will read the next inscription. Enter the manor then use your Witcher Senses to search this location.

You will be observing a number of spoons here. The table at the southeast corner of the house will have the Spoon Key you need to begin the side quest: Spoontaneous Profits!

Collect the spoons in the area and then head down the stairs. This will trigger the next objective. You need to find his cauldron. It'll just be in the next room. Look into the cauldron and then you will need a place to hide. There will be a closet on the opposite side of the room of the cauldron. This will be highlighted with your witcher senses. Before you enter the closet, decide whether you want to lift the curse. You will need to have interacted with enough objects in the room for this to be successful.

When you are ready, Interact with it to play the next scene. Get ready for the next timed decision:

  • [Attack the monster.]
  • [Try to lift the curse.]

If Geralt hasn't discovered enough to know how to lift the curse, then you have no choice but to attack.

Attack the monster

If Geralt attacks it, you will be presented with the following objectives:

  • Follow the wight.
  • Kill the wight.
  • Collect the wight's saliva glands.

Lift the Curse

If you want to successfully lift the curse, Geralt will make his way to the dining table. You must choose to proceed without spoons by selecting:

  • Let's eat, not using the spoons.

If you want to see what happened, you have the optional objective of following the stench of the wight's brew.  If you want to follow it, head back up and follow the trail out the door.

After the cutscene, report back to Regis. Continue to follow him after the cutscene.  You will then be tasked to Place the bait in each of the four tunnels. These areas will be marked on your mini-map. You may need to clear some obstacles from these locations. Once you are done, prepare to fight. The cutscene will play out. Let him know when you are ready. Monsters will continue to approach and attack. You have to hold them off until Regis' Bloodlust fills. The meter will be displayed at the top of your screen. Kill the monsters as they come. This is your final objective before you complete the quest.

La Cage au Fou Journals

Geralt paid Regis a visit at his cemetery hideout. After a long debate, the two old friends concluded their first order of business was to find Dettlaff. Regis was to prepare a concoction to aid them in this endeavor. Called Resonance, said brew required an array of ingredients, many of them hard to find. One such component was the saliva, or salivary glands, of a spotted wight, a species thought to be long extinct. Yet it seemed that one specimen remained alive, having made its lair near Beauclair. Geralt set out to find it.
If Geralt kills the spotted wight:
Geralt found the spotted wight at an old, abandoned estate. The witcher slew the monster and, its salivary glands in hand, made for the cemetery.
If Geralt lifts the curse from the spotted wight (or tries to, but fails):
Geralt found the spotted wight at an old, abandoned estate. The witcher chose not to fight it, opting instead to hide in a wardrobe and await his chance, though how it would come, he could only guess. Once the wight had come and gone, Geralt collected its saliva, which the monster had added to the brew it was making in a large cauldron.
If Geralt lifts the curse from the spotted wight:
Intrigued, Geralt set off in pursuit of the fleeing wight. To the witcher's surprise, the creature proved to be a woman who had been cursed centuries ago. Geralt set about lifting the curse that held her, and through his efforts the wight transformed back into someone of yore named Marlene.
Once Regis received the penultimate ingredient required to brew Resonance, he said the time had come to tackle the most difficult challenge. For apart from all else, Resonance had to include the blood of a higher vampire. At first, Geralt saw this as no challenge at all, as standing before him was a representative of said species. Yet Regis revealed that the blood he needed had to have a specific chemical composition. His blood would change only under conditions of great suffering. Regis offered to endure this without hesitation.
It proved quite the ordeal for Regis, a sacrifice one might say. But they obtained the last ingredient required for Resonance, and the vampire could prepare the concoction. Geralt drank a dose, and visions ensued. He saw Dettlaff, where he had recently been, what he had done. It was enough for Geralt to know he now needed to find a local bootblack. He hoped the boy would help him locate his foe.
