To Bait a Forktail is a Main Quest in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. Main Quests are the main storyline of the game that can have a major effect towards the endings. Some of these quests may have dialogue choices that will alter the ending of the game.

The quest begins precisely at the Kaer Morhen fast travel point, thus if you teleport there from another spot, the quest will update right away.

Yennefer asked - or rather, if I am to be completely honest with you, dear reader, ordered - Geralt to help Eskel hunt a forktail. The sorceress needed ingredients from this dangerous beast's body and clearly thought two witchers would get the job done sooner than one. Geralt thus set out to track the monster - but first, he had to find Eskel.

In the end, the hunters bagged their prey. Using their traditional and, while we're being honest, rather unrefined methods, the two witchers first lured the forktail close, then wounded the beast and gave chase as it fled, finally finishing it off in its lair. And so they acquired the ingredients Yennefer needed and, no less important, had a bit of time to catch up - Eskel and Geralt had not seen each other in years.

Walkthrough for The Witcher 3 To Bait a Forktail

The quest begins precisely at the Kaer Morhen fast travel point, thus if you teleport there from another spot, the quest will update right away. To locate and follow horse footprints, use your witcher senses. You will eventually come across Eskel's mount, Scorpion.

Inspect the dish there if you require Enhanced draconid oil because it will disappear later. Otherwise, search the region there. Then, keep an eye out for Eskel's and a goat's footprints and follow them for a short while until the rough route causes them to vanish. Geralt will then decide to use the goat's scent instead, which you can detect by inspecting a nearby tree. After that, you might need to shoot a few wolves who were drawn to the wildlife. It won't be long until you come upon fresh hoof- and footprints to follow, and you probably can already hear the goat. Eskel can be found where the tracks finally diverge, however the introduction is different if you go for the goat first rather than him immediately after the tree.

The Forktail will come after a little exchange, and you will have to battle it. It will fly away once its health has decreased by approximately 50%, thus chasing it is useless. Find a trail of blood that will take you to a cave using your witcher senses. The Forktail is there again, but this time it can't escape. Eskel will suggest a race back to the keep after you finish it as you leave the cave. Even if you choose to decline, you will still need to travel by horseback. You will receive 200XP gained based on the Story and Swords if you concur and defeat Eskel! He will then rate your level of difficulty and present you with an award, which you can politely decline or accept.

If you agree, he will offer you a pair of Mountain Folk boots and Hanged Man's Venom. If you decline, Geralt will just request that Eskel buy him a drink the next time they cross paths; however, nothing similar occurs later in the game.
