Battle Preparations is a Main Quest in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. Main Quests are the main storyline of the game that can have a major effect towards the endings. Some of these quests may have dialogue choices that will alter the ending of the game.
"Thanks to Triss and Yennefer's hard work, Ciri's team of defenders now had two more outstandings sorceresses in its ranks and the prospect of gaining yet another. With this, our heroes were ready to face Wild Hunt, but to bring Eredin to their world and cut off his escape route, they also needed an elven artifact known as Sunstone. The team set off for the Skellige Isles to finish their final tasks before their final battle.
In short order Geralt had found the Sunstone, secured the sorceress Fringilla Vigo's assistance and prepared Ciri to face Eredin once more. The time had come to fight the Wild Hunt."

The Witcher 3 Walkthrough for Battle Preparations
This series of quests begins when Through Time and Space is finished. Things will be different depending on your previous actions.
If you took the mission with Cerys during King's Gambit, she becomes the ruler. If you took the missions with Hjalmar he becomes the ruler. If you ignored the quest, Svanrige Bran becomes the ruler.
The first part of the quest Sunstone, plays out differently depending on if An Craite or Bran is on the throne.
There is no more flirting to be had between you and Yen or Triss. If you tried a threesome during It Takes Three to Tango, you can talk to them about this.
Once The Sunstone progresses, you will come back to this quest. Ciri's friend is waiting on the boat. You can optionally ask him as many questions as you like. Ask how Margarita is.
