Runestones in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are a category of Equipment Upgrades that Geralt can use to improve his gear. Runestones are socketed into Steel Swords and Silver Swords with empty Sockets available, granting them various effects such as the chance to burn opponents on hit, boosts to attack power or improve the rate at which Geralt gains adrenaline points. Runestones come in three tiers, with each tier providing a larger bonus then the last. Socketing Runestones into Weapons is a service provided by Blacksmiths found in major cities, villages and other settlements. Runestones can be obtained as loot, predominantly from Monster Nests and they can also be purchased from merchants or crafted via Blacksmithing.
- See the Upgrades page for mechanics pertaining to Runestones
- Higher tier Runestones can be crafted using 2 Runestones of the same type but in the previous tier, after finding their Diagrams which are sometimes sold by certain mercahnts.
