Walkthrough for The Witcher 3 Whatsoever a Man Soweth...
This quest immediately begins following the completion of Scenes From a Marriage.
Make your way and Meet Olgierd's man at the Alchemy Inn. During this quest, you will have a number of optional side objectives to pursue with Shani. You will then be presented with additional optional objectives leading you to follow her to the academy before entering it. After the cutscene, you will need to clear the way in order to eventually enter Proessor Shakeslock's house.
After you've cleared the way, take the ladder up the side of the wooden platforms that line the walls. Climb both levels. Use your witcher senses and it will lead you to a highlighted set of doors on the upper levels that you can use Aard on to get through. Take the stairs down and a scene will begin.
After you finish her optional objectives you can continue with your second original objective: Meet Olgierd at the Temple of Lilvani. Follow the quest marker to your objective location. The cutscene will begin once you reach the location.
You will have the ability to decide Olgierd's fate with 2 options:
- Help Olgierd
- Don't get involved
Opt to help him and you will challenge O'Dimm and have to solve his riddle.
To all things and men I appertain,
and yet by some am shunned and distained.
Fondle me and ogle me til you're insane,
but no blow can harm me, cause me pain.
Children delight in me, elders take fright.
Fair maids rejoice and spin.
Cry and I weep, yawn and I sleep.
Smile, and I shall grin.
What am I?
When you are released, you must then find the solution to his riddle. Follow the path straight then take the path right once you reach the well atop the set of stairs. A few specters will also appear. Continue on the path past the wooden bridge then take the left one under the stone arched bridge. Continue straight while keeping left until you reach another specter in front of a set of stairs. Clear the area. Spectre Oil can be used on your blade to end the encounter quicker. Continue up the stairs, and jump the gap. There will be a sword in a stone. Pull out the Venomous Viper Silver Sword. Head back down the stairs and take the left path. Make a right from the large tree taking you through the graveyard gates. Find the set of stairs here and enter the manor passing any specters in the area, head down the hallway at the lower levels and the mirror will shatter at the end. Geralt will then drop down. All the mirrors will shatter as you approach. You must instead find a fountain. Something next to it will be highlighted indicating that there was once water. Use Aard on the wall behind to trigger the next cutscene.
The released water will give you the reflection you need for your riddle. This will conclude all the main quests in Hearts of Stone.
Whatsoever a Man Soweth... Journals
With Shani's help, Geralt managed to enter the Academy grounds and speak to Professor Shakeslock, who had earlier helped Olgierd in his attempts to break the pact with Master Mirror. The professor revealed that O'Dimm could be cheated – one needed only propose a wager, and, as an inveterate gambler, he was ligely[sic] to agree to take one up on it.
If Geralt chooses to save Olgierd:
Geralt took Professor Shakeslock's advice and proposed a wager to Master Mirror. Mirror agreed, but only if it was played out on his terms. He transported Geralt to a strange, dark world and made him solve a riddle. Geralt, who has always had a keen mind for such puzzles, soon found the solution and defeated Gaunter O'Dimm. Was this the last our world will ever see of him? No man can say...
What mattered most at the moment, however, was that Olgierd von Everec was safe, and the pact which had bound him had been dissolved.
If Geralt chooses to leave Olgierd's fate to Gaunter O'Dimm:
Geralt decided not to dispute the arrangement between Gaunter O'Dimm and Olgierd. The pact was fulfilled, and Olgierd's life came to an end.
