The Dwarven Document Dilemma | The Witcher 3 Wiki

The Dwarven Document Dilemma is a Secondary Quest in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. Secondary Quests are optional Quests not required to finish the game. Some of these quests may have a bearing on certain Main Quests or may be a consequence of another Quest.

The Dwarven Document Dilemma can be obtained by speaking to Rostan Muggs marked with a yellow exclamation mark south of the Southern Gate signpost in Novigrad. He asks Geralt for aid in taking back important papers stolen by a thief. 

One of the individuals Geralt met in his travels was a dwarf by the name of Rostan Muggs. This cocksure runt talked Geralt into retrieving some stolen documents for him.

• Go to the place where Muggs was attacked and examine it using your Witcher Senses.
• Use your Witcher Senses to follow the clues to find Muggs' attackers.

If Geralt demands the papers from the attacker:

• Defeat Gerd.
• Compare Muggs' and the attacker's accounts.

Walkthrough for The Witcher 3 The Dwarven Document Dilemma

After speaking to Rostan, Head out to the area on the other end of the bridge, you'll find a bottle of moonshine and pick up a trail. Follow the trail and it will lead you to a man sitting right outside the inn. Talk to him and he'll reveal that Rostan lost the documents when they were gambling. You will have several options here:

• Demand the papers.
• Beat him at Gwent.
• Use Axii, which will require Delusion level 1.
• Ask how much the documents are.
• Simply leave.

If you use any of the options and fail, you can continue trying the other options. For the fistfight, you can only try once, for the Gwent, you can attempt as many times as you want until you beat him. If you choose to leave without the documents, you can go back to Rostan and confront him about the situation. But note that the quest will only be completed once you've obtained the documents.

Once you go back and talk to Rostan, he'll confess and reveal that the documents belonged to his employer and he's desperate to get them back after losing them during a drunken Gwent game, he tried to get them back but Gerd pulled a weapon on him.

Once you've obtained the documents, you'll learn that they're a title to a property. Even if you didn't confront Rostan before giving the documents, he will still confess. Once you hand him the documents, you will receive 25 XP and 20 Crowns, after this, the quest is completed.
