The Battle of Kaer Morhen is a Main Quest in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. Main Quests are the main storyline of the game that can have a major effect towards the endings. Some of these quests may have dialogue choices that will alter the ending of the game.

The side quest Berengar's Blade will fail if it hasn't previously been finished once the council has started.

Geralt and Ciri had no choice but to teleport away from the Isle of Mists when the Wild Hunt threatened to attack. Since Eredin could trace where Ciri traveled to with her abilities, the duo did not so much flee the Hunt as buy a few precious minutes of time. Ciri took Geralt home, to Kaer Morhen where the group of friends the witcher had gathered waited to defend Ciri to their last breath. They spared few seconds for tearful reunion - then began preparations to repel the Hunt's attack.

The friends conferred and established a defense strategy. There was no time to lose. As soon as they finished, the weather changed and snow began to fall. The Wild Hunt appeared above Kaer Morhen and its spectral warriors galloped out of the sky towards the fortress.
The defenders of Kaer Morhen did what they could to hold back their attackers, but the enemy's strenght was overwhelming. The Wild Hunt had made it to the very walls of Kaer Morhen.

Warrior after warrior fell to our heroes blows, but others immediately took their place. The defenders fell back beyond the inner gates of the fortress - and so began the last phase of the battle.

It was dark hour for the defenders of Kaer Morhen. The generals of the Hunt had entered the fray personally. Vesemir had died by Imlerith's hand, and it seemed all of the witcher's friends would soon share his fate. The defenders lives were hanging by a thread, when suddenly Ciri's magic talent revealed its full force. In an uncontrolled outburst of rage she pummeled both allies and enemies alike with a blast of pure Power. The Hunt's forces were nearly wiped out, leaving them no choice but to retrat. Only our valiant defenders, exhausted, wounded, but still alive, remained on the field of battle.

The battle of Kaer Morhen was over. Those who survived buried Vesemir, but had little time for mourning. The danger had only been thwarted temporarily, and they needed to prepare a new plan for saving Ciri.

Walkthrough for The Witcher 3 The Battle of Kaer Morhen

This quest begins as soon as The Isle of Mists has completed. The allies you have here are dependent on what you did during the Brothers in Arms series of recruitments. Meet with your allies as you survey the land.

Return to Witcher Keep with Ciri. Yennefer will embrace and kiss you, regardless of your romantic involvement. Triss will approach you and her reaction will depend on if you are romantically involved. If you've pursued both ladies but not chosen one, they will both look at each other. Hold council in the keep, where you can stop along the way to greet people you recruited during Brothers in Arms. Make your way into the keep, stopping to shop with Keira if you'd like.

You address everyone and agree on the strategy. The plans are discussed, and you are presented with a choice between potions and traps. If you choose the potion you receive Superior Swallow. If you did the quest Following the Thread, you also receive Fortified Rafard's Decoction.  If you choose the traps they will appear on the yards of Kaer Morhen triggered when an enemy walks in.

You now have to make a choice of tool allocation. If you patch up the wall the final stand off has one less wave of enemies. If you clear the armery you gain access to a locked area where you can obtain a silver sword and everyone gets weapons that deal more damage.

Before the battle starts, be sure to stock up and potions and bombs.

Once all is ready, join Lambert speaking to Ciri on the way. Head west out of the keep and the Wild Hunt arrives as well as the battle. In the woods, Lambert tells you to close the portals by tossing bombs at their base. Make your way to the rifts and close them all with bombs or Yrden. Then defeat the Wild Hunt foes. Once all are closed, Imlerith arrives. You fire the bolt to signal Triss but nothing happens.

You are now controlling Ciri. Make your way across the battle towards Triss. Run along the roof taking out a Hound and 4 warriors. Run to where Triss is and help her slay the enemies. Geralt will ask for help in the woods.

The control will now shift back to Geralt. After a long battle, Triss will call her fire down. You flee back to the castle with Lambert and hop on Roach. Make your way quickly across, dodging any missiles along the way. Head to the fortress as Yennefer begins to falter and the shield she summons shrinks.

Inside the keep a portal appears and more enemies appear. Fight the one nearest you until Vesemir yells to close the gate. Turn south and climb the platform to where Vesemir is. If you help him, he heads to the roof to help Triss. Make your way to the gate lever on the upper wall to the west and north and pull it. Return to the courtyard to take out the warriors and help Lambert, making sure he doesn't die.

Retreat back and Vesemir will drop on archway. Stay in the courtyard and take out any enemies keeping your allies from escaping, eliminating any portals that appear. Battle up the steps and to the keep. Head down the steps and towards Triss, closing the portal. After the fight Ciri will appear, and agree to find Eskel.

You now switch back to Ciri, as you save Eskel and face Caranthir. He will leave when a horn sounds. Head to the next objective and defeat the enemies here and make your way down to the courtyard to take out more foes. Head to the wooden wheel and unlock the gate.

You are now back as Geralt. Now that the gates are open you can get to the courtyard and close the portals that pop up. When they are all closed, fight any enemies near. When Eskel yells about the hunt, go up the steps and head northeast. Eliminate the portals that pop up here. Ciri will shout for help. Head south towards the opposite end where more portals will open. Close them and help Triss.

Yen falters and the gates open. You are frozen as the white frost enters the grounds. Ciri will be overcome by rage and screams, forcing the wild hunt back and to banishment. Avallac'h appears and Ciri falls. Speak to Ciri as you wish. The next quest, Blood on the Battlefield begins.
