Plants in the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are a common source of alchmical materials.
They are diplayed in the mini map (leaf icon) and can be gathered by Geralt in order to be used in the creation of Potions, Bombs etc.
The player may opt-out of seeing these icons if they require so. They can be toggled on or off via the Options Menu.
