Ciri's Story: The Race is a Main Quest in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. Main Quests are the main storyline of the game that can have a major effect towards the endings. Some of these quests may have dialogue choices that will alter the ending of the game.
The mission begins with Ciri, the baron, and his men enjoying a warm fire and a roasting boar, thanks to Ciri's prowess in the woods.
The baron treated Ciri like a daughter - no, better - for slaughtering a boar is sadly a delight few fathers think to share with their daughters. His men took an immediate liking to her as well, mainly due to her hunting prowess and passion for horses. One evening as they were celebrating a successful hunt around a bonfire, Ciri proposed a wager: if she beat the baron in a horse race, he would give her a mount of her choosing. The baron accepted the challenge.
The race was meant as a harmless diversion, but soon took a different turn. Ciri and the baron, riding neck and neck, had just caught sight of the tower serving as the finish line when suddenly a basilisk landed at its base and turned its terrifying gaze upon them.

At the beginning of the quest, Ciri will be sitting around a campfire, joking about her abilities with the sword and horse. Answer their questions however you wish. As the race begins, follow the path ahead and on the minimap. Continue racing until you reach a tower, and the race will be put on hold. The Baron will call the horses that were startled by a basilisk. The story is now impacted by the following:
- If you have not finished the Main Quest, Ladies of the Wood, you will receive a new objective that is part of the Family Matters quest, which tasks you with fnding more evidence of where Anna is. At the end, Anna will be found to have a mark on her hands that matches one on Voytek's table. Thus Anna and Gran are the same.
- If you already finished the Main Quest, Ladies of the Wood, you will receive an objective to go see the Baron. When he discovers the truth about Anna, he will continue the story and the quest Ciri's Story Out of the Shadows will commence.
