Ciri's Story: Out of the Shadows is a Main Quest in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. Main Quests are the main storyline of the game that can have a major effect towards the endings. Some of these quests may have dialogue choices that will alter the ending of the game.
The events of Ciri's Story: The Race are shortly followed by this incident.
Ciri and the baron were testing their mettle in a horse race when a basilisk swooped down and put an end to the competition. The beast snatched the baron up and carried him off to its nest. Ciri, sparing no time for second thoughts, ran to his rescue.

Kill the Basilisk
A cut-scene takes place after the basilisk is destroyed during the fight, the sword of the Baron was knocked out. Ciri gets attacked when she tires to help the Baron. The basilisk flies to the top of the ruined tower with the baron that it took.
Rescue the Baron
Start by climbing the stone ledges with white markings nearby the tower. After the climb, part way up a cut-scene takes over. Since Ciri has no other alternatives to get to the tower, she has to use her powers which teleports her in front of the basilisk, killing it before it could further hurt the Baron. Shortly after this scene, it moves back to Crow's Perch. Knowing that Ciri's use of magic would attract The Wild Hunt and threaten all the innocents in the area, she then prepares to leave for Novigrad.
