Blood Ties is a Secondary Quest in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. Secondary Quests are optional Quests not required to finish the game. Some of these quests may have a bearing on certain Main Quests or may be a consequence of another Quest.

Blood Ties can be obtained by speaking to the Nilfgaardian woman marked with a yellow exclamation mark in the camp between the House of Respite and the Nilfgaardian Army Group 'Center' Camp in Velen. She asks for aid in finding her son, a knight of the Nilgaardian army, who has been missing in action.

Near the Nilfgaardian camp Geralt ran into a noblewoman from far-off Nazair. She had journeyed to the front in search of her son, a soldier. The woman was worried because her son would write her often, but at some point had suddenly stopped. No one in the camp knew what had happened to him, but the woman did not believe they were truly ignorant. She offered Geralt a reward for discovering the truth.

Walkthrough for The Witcher 3 Blood Ties

Approach the woman and interact with her, she will ask for your help as the other soldiers will not tell her what happened to her son. After agreeing to help the woman, she will suggest you talk to the quartermaster named Tavar Eggebracht. Go over to him and talk to him. You will have two options here:

  • Pay him 150 Crowns
  • Use Axii, this will require Delusion level 2.

Take note that if you have completed Contract: Patrol Gone Missing without investigating further, the quartermaster will give you an answer just by asking him.

Regardless of your choice, the quartermaster will reveal that the boy and his group attempted to desert and the others were caught and hanged while the others fled to the nearby swamps. The problem is, he doesn't know if the woman's son, Hrodeberth, was among those who are hanged.

Now make your way to the northwest of the House of Respite and search the area by using your witcher senses, you will find tracks near a dead horse, examine the dead horse and the tracks. Follow the tracks and it will lead you to a body, but it is not Hrodeberth. Continue following the tracks, note that you may run into some Ghouls in the area so be wary. You will then find several men hanged, one of which has red hair. Examine the body with red hair, then use your witcher senses to find the unsent letter below the body.

Now return to the woman and she will ask you for the truth, which you will then reveal that her son is already dead. You can choose to lie about how her son died or tell her the truth that he deserted. Regardless of what you tell her, she will still thank you and reward you with 50 Crowns and you will gain 10 XP. The quest will then be completed after this.
