Beyond Hill and Dale... is a Main Quest from the Blood and Wine DLC in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. Main Quests are the main storyline of the game that can have a major effect towards the endings. Some of these quests may have dialogue choices that will alter the ending of the game.

Beyond Hill and Dale... is the quest that follows The Night of Long Fangs after you locate the Find the book "The Land of a Thousand Fables." if you chose to seek out Damien. This questline is only available with the Blood and wine DLC. 

 

Geralt ventured out to find Damien. As the duchess' confidant, he could very well have known where Syanna was being held. Yet locating the valiant captain hardly proved an easy feat. For swarms of vampires summoned by the enraged Dettlaff now prowled the city streets. In the end, the witcher tracked down the Palace Guard, which had been decimated in the fight. He draw[sic] the necessary information out of its wounded commander and proceeded on his way.

 

The Witcher 3 Beyond Hill and Dale... Objectives

  • If Geralt talks to Damien:
  • Meet Regis at the palace.
  • If Geralt changed minds after Blood Simple:
  • Go to the playroom.
  • Search the playroom to find out what happened to Syanna.
  • Find the book "The Land of a Thousand Fables."
  • Follow the yellow brick road. 
  • Defeat the Wicked Witch.
  • Find Joss.
  • [Optional] Ride the white unicorn.
  • Save Joss from the wolves. 
  • Find three magic beans. (3/3) 
  • Visit the three bears.
  • Talk to the girl who sells flint.
  • Visit Grand mamma's house.
  • Find Little Red Riding Hood.
  • Find a way out of the well.
  • Return to Syanna.
  • Defeat the Big Bad Wolf.

Walkthrough for The Witcher 3 Beyond Hill and Dale...

This quest begins in the mythical place seen in the pages of The Land of a Thousand Fables. Your first objective is to follow the yellow brick road. Tracking the quest will slowly lead you to the brick road. First, the quest will lead you west and then take you on an organic path south through the mushrooms and over a waterfall. Once you go over the waterfall, you will be following the path that liens the river. Pass the Grigg village. Take the bridge you pass underneath and you should be heading toward the objective marker. Eventually, you will start to hear some voices. This will lead you to a small village with a small wooden door. Open the door and a cutscene will begin. 

Your quest will update and you will need to defeat the Wicked Witch and face her in a Boss Battle. She has the ability to spawn Archespores on the ground and begins the battle in the area. Once she begins to swoop down, you can knock her off her broom to fight her on the ground. She will then have a combination of ranged and melee attacks. She can throw the contents of her pot, and her broom will also act as a separate entity that can attack when you are in range. When you get close enough to the Witch , she can also swat and swipe at you so get ready to block or step back. Attack her in between these attacks to slowly deplete her HP. She will also eventually drop her pot and rely on these melee claw attacks allowing you to continuously circle around her and anticipate her swipes. Keep waiting for attack openings to eventually deplete her HP and begin the next cutscene. 

After your dialogue, you will need to find Joss. You will be led to the next location by the quest. When you reach the next location, you will engage in another combat interaction against some Wolves. You will need to clear the wolves in order to Save Joss. Clear them to begin the next cutscene. 

You will then need to locate the 3 magic beans. You will have multiple objectives available in order to locate the magic beans. The main 3 you will need to complete are at the tower,  red riding hood, and the three little pigs. 

Yellow Bean

If you climb the tower, this will act towards completing defeating the wraith of Loonglocks. You will engage against the Longlocks wraith in a boss fight. Deal with her as you would other wraiths. You will also be able to find one of the magic beans on her bed. 

The other beans are the red bean and the blue bean. The red bean is swallowed by the Big Bad Wolf which is left from the tower. The blue Bean is where the three Little Pigs are. 

Red Bean

You will need to speak to the wolf and you will need the red hood. Find Little Red Riding Hood in the well. Geralt will have to jump in. Dive down and use your minimap to guide you through the underwater area. This will lead you to another opening with just enough breath. The Hood will be at a chest on a sunken boat on the other side.  You can return to Syanna above ground. Return to the wolf and the scene will play out. You will then need to fight the Big Bad Wolf in another Boss Battle. You will need to open his belly after the fight. This will be done in a cutscene. 

Blue Bean

Search for the magic bean in the brick house after you have entered the area of the three little pigs, head for the brick house to locate the bean. Blow down the brick house and you will find 3 hostile pigs that you will need to clear. The bean will be on the side table in the fallen brick house. 

Speak to the Girl who Sells Flint

You will need to complete this objective in order to obtain a ribbon for Syanna. You will have the option to play cards for the ribbon or pay 500. 

Once you have everything, you will then need to make your way to the spot to plant the magic beans. You will shortly be attacked by a mob of pixies. 

After you plant the seeds and the next cutscene plays out, your next objective is to defeat the Cloud Giant. Beware of its large smashing attacks and the electric currents that can hit from the flag pole piles. Clear the giant then a cutscene will begin you will have to complete some dialogue before you are tasked to follow Syanna then jump into the well after a few dialogue sequences. Choose your dialogue. This will only affect the next cutscene before the last few objectives of the quest. Follow Sienna and she will lead you to the well. Jump in to complete the quest and the next quest will begin: Tesham Mutna

 

Beyond Hill and Dale... Journals

Just as Damien had advised, Regis and Geralt went to the playroom at the Ducal Palace. It seemed a strange choice for a prison, but Anna Henrietta was known to have oft unusual ideas.
The witcher and the vampire searched the room but found no sign of Syanna. They deduced she had to be concealed inside an illusion. the mage Artorius Vigo had created it years earlier, for the ducal daughters when they were but children. It was a fairytale land one could enter through the room...
The Land of a Thousand Fables was an extraordinary place. Now, it was also extraordinarily dangerous. For Artorius Vigo's spell, cast many years earlier, had begun to degenerate, change and grow wild. This was the result of something called magical entropy. The world's fairytale characters had grown unpredictable and aggressive - something the witcher got a taste of soon into his adventure there.
Despite these difficulties, he found Syanna. The witcher and the duchess' sister now shared a goal - both trapped in this magical land, they needed to find the way out. They joined forces. Syanna knew the exit from the Land of a Thousand Fables lay hidden among the clouds overhead. Their first task was to find magic beans that would help them ascend.
A boy named Joss would know where to find the magic beans. yet Joss - who obsessively cried "Wolf!" - was known by all to be a pathological liar. He proved hard to pin down, for his convoluted clues were the exact opposite of the truth.
By Joss' reckoning the red bean "had not been swallowed," though the one who had not swallowed it was the "most humany human in all the land." The blue bean, on the other hand, "Lay out in the open" watched over by "nobody" times three. The yellow bean, in turn, could be found "deep underground," a "bald farm-hand" its guard and keeper.
The witcher and Syanna found all the beans at last. They planted them and climbed the stalk that sprouted into the clouds. High in the sky they spied a castle, then the giant who called it home. "A giant," you might say, then tremble in your boots. But the witcher and his companion defeated it post haste.
Geralt and Syanna finally left the Land of a Thousand Fables. Meanwhile in the city, the massacre had raged unchecked. Yet Syanna had returned, so hope burned anew. If Dettlaff and his former lover could be made to meet, the vampires' rampage in the city could come to an end.
