Active Shield is a Sign Skill in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Active Shield is located in the Quen Skill Line and requires 6 points in Sign Skills to unlock it.

  1. Alternate Sign Mode: Creates an active shield. Maintaining it and blocking attacks drains Stamina. Damage absorbed by the shield restores player Vitality. Stamina regeneration in combat +0.5/s
  2. Alternate Sign Mode: Maintaining an active shield now drains 50% less Stamina. Stamina drain for blocked attacks unchanged. Damage absorbed by the shield restores player Vitality. Stamina regeneration in combat +1/s
  3. Alternate Sign mode: Maintaining an active shield no longer drains Stamina. Stamina drained for blocked attacks unchanged. Damage absorbed by the shield restores player Vitality. Stamina regeneration in combat +1.5/s

      A tip of mine; Once you learn the attack routine of a monster , you can enable it right before being hit, Although Those with quen discharge/explosive shield will really love this tip, As you can Wait, block and then ... Boom, something just took damage, but you yourself took none, or if you feel lucky AF , use it when low health, its risky but it really helps to give your geralt a "second wind" in combat

        at max lvl i barely uses any potions for regenerating hp because your shield while defending also absorbed hp from dmg (doesn't cost stamina at all).i was experimenting with all signs and by far i recommend this for all around build and for sure gonna max this sign first on next DM playthough

          Well, let's be honest, you want it because it heals you up, without using up any consumable. The stamina drain is not really important, since you will activate it just to absorb a hit or two and not to stand there for half an hour.
