A Dangerous Game is a Secondary Quest in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. Secondary Quests are optional Quests not required to finish the game. Some of these quests may have a bearing on certain Main Quests or may be a consequence of another Quest.

A Dangerous Game can be obtained by approaching Zoltan Chivay marked with a yellow exclamation mark just north of the Gate of the Hierarch in Novigrad. Zoltan asks Geralt for help in locating 3 rare Gwent cards.

Zoltan Chivay has never had much luck in business. No exception to this rule was the time he tried to acquire and sell three valuable gwent cards. At this time gwent was reaching the peak of its popularity and collectors were paying a fool's fortune for rare cards.

Walkthrough for The Witcher 3 A Dangerous Game

Once you arrive at the Rosemary and Thyme, Zoltan can be seen arguing with some men outside. Approach them and join the conversation. You can choose either option, then Duke will decide it's time to go even when his friend, Earl will say that he can get rid of you. Once the bandits leave, Zoltan will ask for your help in finding three rare Gwent cards: Fringilla Vigo, Isengrim, and Natalis. If you agree to help him, he will then direct you to Zed.

Now head over to Zed's place and knock on the door. No one will answer but you will hear someone is inside. You would have to look for another entrance. Walk down the stairs and climb the ladder in front of you, then climb another ladder and jump over a gap between the two buildings, now you should see an open door there. Once you enter Zed's house, you will find his body on lying on the ground. Examine the body and move forward with the investigation. Once you walk down, you will hear two bandits talking and you'll hear they're looking for his ledger. They will also say that they've found the Isengrim card. Now fight them and loot the Isengrim card along with the key to the main entrance. You can then search for the ledger using your witcher senses and you'll notice claw marks under the stairs. Use Aard to break the boards to reveal the chest containing the Ledger of Income and Outlays. Now go back to Zoltan, he will then direct you to Ravik who has the Natalis card, as well as Caesar Bilzen who has the Fringilla Vigo card. You can choose which target you would go to first.

To find Ravik, you would need to go to The Golden Sturgeon, you will find him on the bottom floor. You will see him cornered by Earl and the other thug you met earlier. Earl will offer to play Gwent with you for Ravik's life as well as the card. If you refuse, Ravik will be killed and the fight begins. Then you can loot the card from his body. If you accept and win the game, Ravik is spared but the fight will also begin. Ravik will then give you the card afterward.

You can then meet Zoltan when you reach the house. Talk to him and he'll explain how he plans to steal the card from Caesar Bilzen. Caesar has a secret collection in his house. When Caesar greets both of you at the doorstep, he will ask if you're into fishing. Regardless of your answer, he will invite you to dinner and have a drunken conversation about fish. Then you will ask him to get more booze, while away, you can then look for his secret collection and find the card.

Head upstairs and use your witcher senses, you will find a knife on the sideboard and a triangular hole in the bookcase. Examine the knife, it can turn to the side and then a drawer will open on your right. Find the triangular key inside the drawer and it should fit through the hole in the bookcase. Once you interact with it, another bookcase will move and reveal a hidden door. Climb the staircase and you will find the collection, then retrieve the card.

Once you've obtained the card, head downstairs and talk to Zoltan. As you're about to leave, two Dwarves will appear and will seem hostile against Caesar. You can choose to simply leave or fight them. If you decide to leave, they would probably kill him. If you fight, Caesar will thank you and decide to leave the city.

Now that you have all three cards, accompany Zoltan to where the transaction will take place. You will find that the client is dead and that Duke has all the money. Duke will then call his thugs as he makes a run for it. Zoltan tells you to chase after Duke while he deals with the thugs. Go up the tower and some stairs, then head down another tower to the last level, which will lead you to the sewers. You'll then see Duke running behind a locked door and you'll have to go around it. You will fight off several Drowners in the area and find a breakable wall in the last room. Use Aard to break the wall and deal with the Drowners you encounter ahead. You will find Duke lying on the ground, injured. Interact with him to get the money back. You can then choose to let him go or kill him. Regardless of your choice, he will most likely die from the injuries he received. You will then be teleported back to Zoltan, you will have two choices here:

  • Take the gold and Zoltan will find another client for the cards. You will receive 80 XP and 150 Crowns.
  • Keep the cards for yourself and Zoltan will pay off his debts with the gold. There are no other rewards for this choice besides keeping the cards for yourself.

After choosing what to do with the cards, the quest is completed.
