Bolts in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt refer to the ammunition used to fire Crossbows. Crossbows are small, one-handed Ranged Weapons that Geralt can use to deal damage to opponents from a distance. Geralt will gain access to basic Bolts early in the game when he acquires the basic Crossbow. These Bolts have no special properties but are unlimited. However, Geralt can also obtain a number of more specialized Bolts through various means including random loot drops, treasure chests, rewards, merchant purchases, as well as through crafting via a Blacksmith with the appropriate diagrams and components. These Bolts have special effects or damage properties that make them more effective in ranged combat.
